MGA EEPIC Framework Discussion

The energy system is under pressure. Across the Midwest, states face unprecedented demand growth, increasingly severe weather, and a growing threat landscape of physical and cyber attacks, all while coordinating planning across a fragmented network of state agencies, utilities, regulators, and other partners who each hold a piece of the puzzle but rarely work from the same page. Effective energy security means bringing those pieces together, and no single agency can do it alone.

To meet that challenge, MGA convened an advisory group of subject matter experts spanning state energy offices, public utility commissions, utilities, ISO/RTOs, and emergency management. Over two years, this group produced the Energy and Emergency Planning Integration Crosswalk (EEPIC), a product of real-world practitioner expertise. The EEPIC gives state offices a structured, flexible resource to align policy goals, regulatory authorities, and planning processes into a cohesive approach to energy security, scaled to each state’s own context and priorities.

This virtual session is the culmination of this process. First, hear from Jonathon Monken and Braxton Duncan from Converge Strategies, LLC, who designed and executed the development of the EEPIC. They will provide a high-level overview of the framework’s development, structure, and applications for the state. We will then have a panel of participants who have helped shape this effort and will discuss how states can put the framework into practice.
